Ok, so as you may have read by now I am working on a little book called UnDead End, and I currently have it up on Kickstarter to raise the funds to cover printing costs. I have added a new reward to the kickstarter, in hopes to spur on more donations. That new reward is the full digital pdf of the book, in black and white, for only $3! I like to call it the old-school horror version. It's only going to be available as this reward on Kickstarter. So go get yourself a copy of my book, and help me get it made!

Hi everybody! I have been working hard the last several weeks writing and prepping my first creator owned project. It's a 2 issue miniseries titled UnDead End. It's about a 20-something pizza guy who happens to be a hypochondriac and ends up in the middle of a zombie virus outbreak... on the surface. Below that is a story about a person who is wasting his life away because of the fear he faces each day that he is going to contract some sort of deadly disease. It's crippling him and instead of living his life, he's keeping himself in his safe little town, where he knows everyone and everything, and he doesn't have to take any unnecessary risks. When a virus starts killing and reanimating it's victims in the middle of his pizza delivery shift it starts to become clear that not only does he have to face his greatest fears made real in the form of disease infested undead monsters stalking his town, but now he has to find a way to get out of his beloved town alive, and try to save everyone who isn't infected as well.

The book is a mix of horror and comedy, and, above all else, going to be fun. Please go check out the Kickstarter page, and if you want, go ahead and fund it. I got so many new watchers, which I'm super excited about, and I can tell you that I have a lot of things planned that I will be revealing here on DeviantART. The big one being my first creator owned comic that I will be announcing officially very shortly, and will be posting artwork from the various stages in progress. I'm nearly finished with the script now, and then it's time to put pencil and ink to board after that! Hey people, hope everyone's holiday was awesome, I know mine was! I just wanted to spread some love on DA for a group of friends that are competing in the National Film Challenge and their short film has been selected as one of the top 15 films in the country. It's a cool little ghost story, that if you like horror flicks, you'll dig this. Anybody going to the Boston Comic Con this weekend?

How's it going folks? I needed to do some updates on here as I've been mostly absent recently,  busy with a bunch of stuff. Some of which I'll be posting and other stuff I'm not allowed to post since I was assisting another artist and working over his layouts. But as it stands right now I'm doing an oil painting, which I haven't done since school nearly two years ago, and once that's done I'm going to be finishing up some submission pages to be sent out to wrangle myself some full time art work.

Once the submission pages are finished, I'll have those posted, and I'll be yelling and screaming in all of your ears if I snag myself a gig.

Also I've had a LOT of activity that I haven't responded to, and to all the people that have watched me or favorited some of my work in recent months, I just want to say thank you, it's a huge motivation when I sign on and see that someone new has dug my stuff. So thank you!

I've taken naps that haven't exceeded 3.5 hours. I'm exhausted, but I think I've reached a new level of consciousness. Nothing ethereal or anything like that, just a self awareness that was born of this past week's events. Job wise, I'm a rookie with this art thing, but I've had more work than I expected. Not that it's for very good money at this point. But anyway...

Earlier this week I had probably my best opportunity, up til this point in my career. A writer, not an aspiring one, but an actual writer, wanted me to do some try out pages for a book he's going to be doing. I had some other work I had to do at the same time, so all nighters and coffee was going to be the way to go for me. Fast forward a few days and I've finished the try out pages, they're "ok" but not bad by any means, so I send them in. The writer calls me back and tells me what he likes and doesnt like about them, unfortunately he doesn't like more than he likes. He basically was saying that it wasn't anything special. But I agree with what he was saying. I've had concerns about my work not being very "specific" and sure enough that fear is what did me in on these pages. He tells me how he thinks the pages are just your straight forward comic art, and he wants something special, and he cites an image in my gallery ( coincidentally one of my personal favorites, and probably one of the last times I really had fun doing a finished piece) and he says that is what he was looking for, and if I could do that consistently in a sequential that could be it.

I don't know what the hell I'm doing. I don't know why I'm doing this. It's not for the money thats for sure. But at some point drawing became this mindless exercise, that when I sit down I don't consider what I'm doing, but worry about how I'm going to do it. I think "it's gotta be right". For some reason I feel, technically speaking, the process of my drawing used to be better. Like I used to be able to use the knowledge I have better. Because when I sit down to draw I want to get it over with already. But something keeps my ass in that chair, and it's not masochism. I don't think... Anyway, talking to the writer, and not sleeping because I had to draw made something click. Why the hell am I not drawing like I want to? I know the things I like, and the things I do well. I understand the rules enough that I don't need to adhere to them, but rather use them as a tool to make my work believable. So why should I waste time with this shit work? I don't know why I have up to this point, but maybe it's all just the natural journey to find your voice in your work. I don't care if it's right anymore, I never really cared as long as it looked good, but I cared if other people knew it wasn't "right". Not anymore. I don't know I could be totally exhausted and going off on a train of thought that really won't make a bit of difference after my next nap, but it felt profound to me. Like I had finally discovered the understanding I needed to free myself from the shit that was making me hate drawing.

I suppose now I make everyone reading this a promise that I'll do better or something. But thats not really it. I think the only thing I can pledge is: I promise to do different.

As an aside to all this. The writer's take on my work is probably what sparked this, but the crazy thing is, he wanted me to give it another shot. Like he knew better of me or something. So that's what I'm doing. Hopefully to a better end.
